The definition of an orthodontic treatment plan requires the collection of documentation complete that allows to study the case accurately: to all new patients for it reason is dedicated a path of two meetings, in order to be able to deepen all present problems.
First visit (First Meeting): The patient has the opportunity to get to know our team and have more information on Orthodontics. Following the collection of anamnestic data (information personal data and general health) an in-depth visit is carried out: at the end of this visit shows the patient if orthodontic treatment is indicated and if you are in the correct time to start it. In this case, the records necessary for study the case (photographs, radiographs, impressions for model development) and, if indicated,
additional radiographic examinations are prescribed. If the patient has material recently diagnosed, he is kindly requested to take him to the office for this first meeting.
The collection of records allows to analyze:
Photographs of the face and mouth: allow you to evaluate facial features (presence of asymmetries, harmony of the profile, type of soft tissues) and the type of malocclusion.
Plaster models (developed after taking the impressions): they allow you to perform a series of measurements on the size / proportions of the teeth and the amount of space available in the teeth arches.
Radiographs:
Orthopantomography (panoramic radiography): allows you to evaluate the presence and position of all deciduous and permanent teeth. He also gives information to the doctor about the facilities adjacent (temporomandibular joint, maxillary sinuses, etc.).
Latero-lateral teleradiography: performed from a lateral projection, it allows to evaluate the mutual position of jaw bones and teeth and to make predictions on the growth of structures skeletal.
Postero-anterior teleradiography: performed from a frontal projection, allows to evaluate the presence of asymmetries in the maxillary bones and in the position of the teeth.
Some specific cases that require a thorough diagnosis (severe asymmetries, including teeth, joint dysfunctions) may require other radiographic examinations such as CT, tomography volumetric "cone beam", scintigraphy, magnetic resonance.
Orthodontic check-up (or case study): the doctor examines all the documentation collection and, following measurements on the models and processing of cephalometric traces on x-rays, makes a diagnosis and defines a targeted treatment plan.
Case presentation (Second meeting): the doctor holds an interview with the patient or i parents (in the case of a child) in which the results of the orthodontic check-up are illustrated (case study). Specific information is provided regarding the type of therapy, the
necessary equipment, expected life and costs. For this meeting, the presence of both parents (the presence of the child is not strictly necessary).
